The Algerian market
Algeria, the largest of the Maghreb states, has approximately 41 million inhabitants. The People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria is rich in resources – currently, oil and gas exports account for 60 percent of the state revenue. With 85 percent of the goods flows being imports, the market is characterized by an export-import imbalance. In order to reduce the dependency on the oil and gas sector, the government aims at enforcing economic diversification and opening up the country for export.
