Wojciech Łyżwiński has been with Militzer & Münch Poland for more than a quarter-century. This year will be his last as Managing Director of M&M air sea cargo S.A. Afterwards he will continue as Chairman of the Supervisory Board. In this interview he speaks about his journey with Militzer & Münch: the challenges, the achievements, and the future.
Łyżwiński came to logistics after working as administration director at Warsaw’s School of Economics. The political transformation in Poland in 1989 opened new opportunities, and he said yes to a proposal to start a new company in the logistics area. He had to learn a lot from scratch — the first employee he hired, Marek Ziemniewicz, still works in the company as a board member and operational director after 25 years.
Key milestones for Militzer & Münch Poland
Starting from a customs agency, the company built up air freight, sea freight, and FTL transport departments. New offices were opened in Wrocław, Kraków, Pruszków near Warsaw, and Rzeszów. The company gained AEO status and ISO certification. In 2017, a very successful road division was launched, and a strong sales team increased sales by over 30 percent.
“The most important asset of our company are the people and their know-how,” says Łyżwiński. “Many of them have been working in our company for up to 25 years.”
After 26 years with Militzer & Münch, Łyżwiński is retiring at the end of the year, but will stay close to the company as Chairman of the Supervisory Board, with Marek Ziemniewicz taking over as Managing Director.
