St. Gallen, 31 January 2022. The Militzer & Münch Group is reinforcing its presence in China: on January 4, the team of Militzer & Münch China took into operation a new office in the megacity of Chongqing. With its eighth branch in China so far, the logistics service provider is strengthening its network in the growing economic region in the southwest of the country.

Last year, Militzer & Münch China’s business developed well; reason enough to further expand market presence in China and to open an office in the country’s southwest. “China is of central importance for our growth in Asia,” says Andreas Löwenstein, Regional Managing Director Asia / Far East at Militzer & Münch. “The team at the new branch office will cooperate closely with our country units in Europe to strengthen our Asia-Europe traffics.”

Chongqing – the economic center of southwest China

The city of Chongqing has 32 million inhabitants in an area roughly equivalent to the national territory of Austria. The city benefits from the Chinese government’s strategy to develop the western parts of the country. Within this framework, Chongqing offers great potential for further growth. The megacity is already a very important rail hub along the new Silk Road. Chongqing is also the starting point of the Yuxinou-Sino Euro block train. Since its launch in 2012, more than 8,000 trains have already departed. The route runs from Chongqing via China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus and Poland to Duisburg, Germany.

The new Militzer & Münch branch office is headed by Dave Li, who is himself a native of Chongqing and has more than ten years of professional experience in logistics. “The new branch will help us to improve our network and presence in Central and Western China,” says Elyar Sherkati, Managing Director of M&M’s Chinese country unit.
